I bought a 400EX it did not come with the manual.
I need to know how much oil to put in it. Do I put it all in the reservoir or do I put some in the engine and the reservoir?
Are there any tricks to changing the oil to make it easier or something that you do, tips and tricks…?

all of the oil goes in the oil tank change the oil filter every time you change the oil every couple times you change the oil or so there is a screen in the line at the bottom of the tank that you may want to check i use two quarts of honda oil in mine

the HONDA manual says to use exactly 1.8 US qt's but 2 qt's is fine

I know Im gonna sound STUPID but, where the hell is the oil filter? Im no stranger to engines but I guess Im overlooking this. I have a 400ex

It's on the right side of the quad up toward the front of the motor. There is a small round cover with a bolt on each side. Unscrew both bolts and pull the cover off. Your filter is beneath the cover. Be careful, there is a spring behind the filter. Make sure you put the spring in before the filter and put the filter on the right way. It should be stamped on the filter which direction to put toward the motor. If you don't put the filter on the right way, it will lock your motor up. As long as you read the filter you can't really screw it up. Hope that helps. p.s. 1.8 quarts is what the manual says for capacity. I personally would not overfill it. Too much oil could blow the seals in the motor. there is also two drain plugs. One on the motor and one on the reservoir.

How often should I change the oil? I wont be doing any racing for now..

my manual says to use 10w40 an i use 2 quarts an 3 onces and i just use 10w-40 car oil "Pennzoil" i cant spell. But i was wondering is Hinson race oil good or is it the same stuff, i saw it in "Rocky Mountain"

be sure and use oil for ATV's or wet clutch systems..your clutch will love you for it, if you don't the clutch plates won't last as long and there not cheap to replace.

With that said I use val. 10w-40 ATV oil..it's new and costs about 2.50 a quart, and if you do alot of hard riding replace the oil filter with every oil change.
