since the 300ex has a removable hood I say you sould give it a try. if you mess it up you can buy a new one for not to much $$$. or get the 250R hood then.

Did you see the pics of the one I did one a 300ex???
If so I did another one with a diffrent style i'll scan the pics tonigh and post them if you want just to give you different ideas

well this one looks really good with the graphic kit. The pics is really dark tho so you can really see it good. the first pic look bad. but if you see it in real life the look good. The pics don't do them justice.

You can do any patern you want really. You could do some really crazy scoop if you want you just need more time

You ought to get a hood for a 300ex. Feather Carbon makes a Carbon Fiber hood for the 300ex. You ought to check it out. Check out their website, http://www.feathercarbon.com/300ex.htm.
