A group of us are going to glamis for the first time during the thanksgiving week. heard the place is nuts. lookin for good info for when we get there. We are driving out from N.J. and dont know much about the area. I'm lookin for where the good spots to camp, ride, party etc are. Do ya need any permits and if so can ya get them their. Basicly if you were there before and would go back what would ya do different this time around.

There is too much for me to list here. As far as night life the Rangers have pretty much shutdown both of the big party spots which are Competition Hill (Comp) & Oldsmobile Hill (Olds). Camping I would say get there a day or two early and try to find a spot on Gecko road. I like Pad 3 or Road Runner camp grounds off Gecko road. As far as riding check out China Wall, Olds, Gecko Sand Drags, and Comp. A good website with maps, pics and videos is http://dunereview.com/glamis.htm make sure to check it out to get an idea of where everything is. Glamis is huge its well worth the trip. I'm going out there this weekend. I will post some pictures when I get back. Let me know if you have anymore questions. I try to go out to the dunes twice a month so I'm pretty familiar with them.

You will need to get there more than a day or 2 early to get a good spot on Gecko.
It is packed on Thanksgiving, but a blast just the same. The 2004/2005 passes ran $25 for the week & $90 for the year. The BLM has not announced the fees for next season (Oct-Sept)
You may have better luck camping in the washes. There is a good group of people from Glamis Dunes that camps in Wash 13.5 (washes are numbered 1=40+) You can hook up with them if you like.

If you want to camp near Glamis, you'll need to be there AT LEAST a week ahead of time to find a spot. Lots of folks I know, drop their rigs out their a week before. If you want not as crowded head south to Ogilby Rd., Gordons Well, or Buttercup. It will be thick there also, but there's alot more room to spread out there.
Definately worth the price of admission. 1 week stay is $30, season pass is $90.

they pretty much covered it, make sure you get a spot and mark it off! People have no problem parking up your @ssholes! Get a flag, have a vehicle that can go into the dunes for a rescue, and bring a gps or some sort of location device, it is very easy to get lost out there!
