in the owners manual it says not to use energy conserving. the castrol GTX is, but does it really matter?

it wont hurt anything any oil is better than none. they wont you to by the $4 honda oil.

You can't use oil with friction modifiers in it. It will cause your clutch to not work properly. At least that's what happened whe I used the wrong oil.

spend the extra couple of dollars, and keep your machine running right. If you do use a car oil dont use the friction modifier.

i decided not to use the castrol and went down to the local yamaha dealer and got some atv oil.

you can use automotive oil just dont use synthetic automotive. You can use synthetic atv oil because it is designed for wet clutch use. Once you get something just stick with it. Switching back and forth between synthetic and non synthetic is what causes gumming.
