I just bought an 04 400ex and when i have it on choke when its cold, it does not raise the idle like every other atv i'v owned. its kinda annoying cause i have to hold the throttle to keep it running for a few min. Is this normal, should i try to raise the idle, it idles fine when warm though

thats how mine was. when i got my pipe i turned the idle up a little and it helped alot

Well, we've got a large-bore air-cooled 4 stroke that is made to run cool enough in 100 degree weather, so they run crappy when cold no matter what. I know what you mean though, it sure would be nice if the full-choke position bumped the idle up a bit, but I think we'd still have to hold the throttle a bit until it warmed up. At least the idle adj. screw is easy to get to!
