How did yall learn to jump like that? i mean do you just work your way up? or do you just go out and do it? Im curious.. Also, i notice alot of guys that jump seem to hit the landing perfect everytime.. is that just what the videos are showing and not showing the trial and error to get it? is there some kinda math that is done to figure that stuff out?

Ive got more questions but i cant think of em right now

first of all....lmfao at the title of this thread...best thread name ever!

anyways ill tell you the secret to how we began taking our quads off some sweet jumps. when i first started riding me and my friend went out and built some little hillrod jump in the middle of a field with shovels that we'd flat land after catching like 3 feet of air (litterally) we thought we were hot ****. i never jumped too big tho and one day at school i overheard this kid talkin about his warrior and his track and being the little punk i was i started making fun of him for having a warrior. he told me if i thought i was so good then i should come out and ride his track. so i said fine whatever and i came out there like a day later. he took me out there to his track to this jump i just thought was massive. 30 foot tabletop lol. i never hit a jump with a landing and i had never gone off a takeoff where you couldnt see the landing behind it either. it was a bit unnerving and it took a while for me to work up the courage. he had been jumpin it all day on his warrior and finally i hit it too. i was stoked...man it was sweet and we thought we were just catchin some huge air! lol. we thought we were the kings of the world.

the kid with the warrior turned out to be crazy casey...i dunno if you remember seein him around the boarts or not. but long story short we became good friends and started riding everyday. the track evolved with us, that tabletop evoled into a 40 foot double and then a 50 foot double. we built a couple other doubles too and then one day we got the bright idea to build a ramp for quads. at the time i knew of only one other quad ramp in the world and it was wood and belonged to jon chandler of huevos fame (this was before he was famous tho). the ramp we built was steel and bigger than his. we thought we were insane...i mean jeez..a 6 foot tall kicker!? we're gonna be skyin these *****es! so we build that and get pretty good at that too.

about that time me and casey got word of some kid at school by the name of josh normington who was going around saying he was the best fourwheeler rider in school. we went ouit to his track one night and it was puny and laaaame. we were like man what a loser, and proceeded to mock him everytime we saw him at school. he'd walk by and we'd be like "there goes the BEST fourwheeler rider in the school!". he started avoiding us cuz he thought we hated him but really we justy wanted him to stop making false claims so me and casey decided to go riding with him one day. we went out to his place and he built this double that dwarfed anything else he had. he wanted somethin that he didnt think we'd jump. but me and casey looked at it for a minute or 2 and jumped it no problem. then we talked him into jumping it. he loved it and we talked him into building his track up which he did. and he went out and rode it every day. he'd wake up at like 4 in the morning everyday just so he could ride before he went to school. so then he got really good too and we all became friends.

so basically the moral of the story is find some kid in your school or at work or by you live or whatever and start makin fun of him lol. then go out and ride with him, make friends with him, and use each other to push yourselves further and further. practice as much as you can. oh and this is probably the hardest part and you dont nescisarily need it but it makes things much much easier. make sure at least one of your friends owns a skid loader of some sort so you can build bigger and bigger jumps. casey owned a smallish skid and josh well his dad owns an excavating company so we can build huge huge jumps whenever we want. but if you cant find anybody like that then just go out and do what you have to do if you wanna jump. take a buncha buddies out with shovels, find some natural jumps, or go to the local track. just get out there and practice with some friends and you'll get good before you know it! whew that was a long one!

heres a pic of that 30 foot table we thought was so crazy

1. go find a kid or a neighbor to make fun of... CHECK

haahahahaha..

ok so basically your saying, just jump them.. and see what happens? lol.. I have always been curious to know if when you jump, if basically the quad will do the work for you.. meaning does it pretty much stay straight and on point or do you really have to throw it around to keep it pitched right?

When you guys say 30 ft 40 ft blahblah.. does that mean how high you get when you hit it? or how far you go? i mean 30 ft of air is alot sweeter than 3 ft of air... but i dont think my 400ex can pull any kinda "big" jumps with the custom sledgehammer suspension thats on it.. im just lookin to toy around and break afew bones..

Thanks for the reply juggaho.. err i mean JUGGALO... lol..

Btw, my roomate is a HUGE icp fan.. so at night, i let him listen to eminem before he goes to sleep, i hav enever seen anyone get so pissed off.. haahahahahah

Pretty much the best advice is, hit it a little faster then what you think it needs and pray for the best. Learn body english in the air and all that and just hit the stuff.

Posted by: sampleez

you definately need to slowly work yourself up to the bigger stuff. try and find a smaller tabletop at a local track or build one if it's possible. then just start going over it with a little more speed each time until you get over it. after a while, you will be able to look at a jump and know about how fast ya need to hit it. the main thing is practice!!

Posted by: Juggalo

lol about the ICP thing...i was a fan in my younger days...i dont listen to em much anymore..i just dont wanna go thru the hassle of changing my name and explaining to everybody who i am lol

anyways about the air..when i say 30 feet i mean distance. almost always when you hear somebody say i hit this 40 footer or whatever it means thats how big of a gap it was. as for jumping and the quad staying straight that depends on a lot of things. but yeah for the most part you just point and shoot but that doesnt mean you dont constantly have to be ready to make adjustments if somethin does come up. just start out small and work your way up. dont get in over your head. ride as much as you can and just keep practicing! lemme know if you have any other questions...

Yes it always best to start out on a table top and u are talkin about the stock suspension i was the only 1 with stock suspensiopn on my 400ex hitting and clearing a 50 foot table top during a race its just mind over matter for me. And the quad will stay pretty good in the air but if u go off the jumpo a lil sideways u will ahve to correct it in the air by just body english and if u want teh front end to come down hit the rear breaks if u are nose diving just panick rev it .

one thing you guys are forgetting. right when your about to leave the launch DO NOT let off the throttle. ive seen people do this one too many times. it aint pretty.

why is that?

Is it because the quad will do the best impression of a kamakazi pilot? lol

Just curious

cus if u let off the throttle after u take off you will be attempting a front flip.

as far as i see i will be clearing a 20 foot table top soon! ive already cleared the 15 foot one! woohoo and i thought that i was made for off-road! i love this sport!

Posted by: Hondadudeehhhh

although im not hitting big 70 footers like dave i did the same thing. My cousin and i built a jump where we probably went about 15 feet and about 4 feet off the ground. I was doing this on a sportsman 335 for about a year and i thought i was hot ****. I got a blaster and started to add a little dirt still doing th eflatr landing thing. i broke my blaster and was stuck with the 335 again. I bought a 400ex over the summer and built a 40 foot table. I started hitting that in 1 gear just making it half way through to get myself comfortable. One day my cousin who is 2 year younger than me brings his ttr over and cleared it his first time attemting it. That made me mad so i hit it and after about 3 times i was taking my hands off, then my feet, then moving my feet over the seat a little. My cousin was getting pumped and started busting no footers. So as we pushed each other it escaladed..... then winter came haha. Just do was you are comfortable with.

LOL, i hear ya man. If your just staring out, dont try to freestyle with snow jumps in the winter, just wait until the gound thats and build yourself something outta dirt.

good story juggs!

Posted by: hosted

If you have a motocross track nearby, go there on practice nights and just go at whatever pace is comfortable for you. Just hit the tabletops at a good pace and hit small doubles. Before you know it you'll be clearing the tables with ease and start to feel comfortable with gaps.

Posted by: Atkins450

btw, i read all of juggs story and thats sick how josh was getting up at 4am to ride.

yeah i gotta give him respect for that...thats how he got so good..sheeit if i had a track in my backyard we'd all be right up there with dana creech and them now...but we're makin our way. josh is crazy like that tho...boy loves to ride

Posted by: 400exracer08

he got up today at 3 and couldn't get back to sleep and started working on the track at 530 this morning until he had to go to work. he sure is doing a good job on the track. except for the part i crashed on. i crashed on the smallest jump out there and my quad went into neutral and i nose dived into a jump and broke my frame in 3 spots

Posted by: urb'nyouthfilms

yeah that was nuts mike, f*ckin quad just kept goin on over the top of you. Yeah josh is determined thats for sure, once that boy gets on a quad and in front of a camera you cant get him to stop.

Posted by: Quiksilver01

i just got into freestyle this is the 250ex im usin its got a busted axle but im gettin a durablue soon.. after that im saving for a 400ex so i can go bigger than 30 footers

Posted by: MX26

My chain broke on the face of a 4th pinned table top once... That was ALMOST the 1st ever front flip.. Instead, just another week off work.

Take jumping slow. You'll get it as time goes by

Posted by: Lgnrider424

i would have never hit the kicker or any bigger jump for that matter if i had never met Dave and casey and the former A-team (not many people know about the A-team, pre-LGN) in the dirtbike days. they are the ones who push me when i ride. same goes on the snowmobiles. when i ride with my buddy who races snowcross i ride way more aggreassive and jump way bigger and try harder ****. but when i ride with the old dudes im more chill and like to carve. its all who you ride with

Posted by: 400exracer08

The is me jumping the new triple at the Lgn riding area.

Posted by: 660r_freestyler

dont jumo anything at all..build your self a rev 3 and hit it 5th gear pinned and dont let off lean way back and dont ahve a landing thats how me and everybody else learned..right?

Posted by: skitstvdotcom

Whats fun is hitting a double for the first time... your mind plays so many trick on you about how far it is

question

my buddies dad works next to a track and he says there is a jump there that the guys go like 30-40ft but only get 2-4ft off the ground... what would be the best way to achieve this?

Posted by: tony_jackass

go like sitting down and just about when you leave the ramp stand and kid of preload the suspension
, thats great during races

Posted by: Nausty

haha nice story jug. That reminds me of me kinda. I remember thinking I was such hot crap for doing no footers and jumping lil table tops. Maybe some of you og forum posters remember me posting this on every "big air" thread posted.

Posted by: sampleez

the quality of the pic sucks, but that was a pretty sweet double at a local track. the owner said it's around 80 foot, and it throws ya way up there. it's also the jump i bent my week old lsr axle on, before i got the owner to fix the landing

I love the title of this thread. Did you mean for it to sound like something Napolean Dynaminte himself would have said?

Posted by: FoxRacing81

First, I started off on little singles we'd build and just plop off em. Now my friend is almost clearing a 100ft table top. I got the 40ft tabletop down good now, working my way and hopefully I'll be trying a few doubles as soon as I get my motor work done.

Speaking of warriors...I almost cleared the same 40ft tabletop on my old one once. Fun as hell..but the landings we're brutal.
