ok....so ive been tearing my 400 down and ran into 2 major problems.....

1. while taking the oil filter cover off the long bolt snapped- do i have to take the whole case off to tap it out?

and

2. on the side of the carb-the big black part- the 2 screws holding it on are stripped and i have to get it off to replace my throttle cable- how do i get them out

thanks!

on the carb thing, just take a grinder and grind a line in it so you can get it out with a flat head screw driver

Get a torque wrench so you stop overtightening everything. That would be the best advice.

You'll have to take the cover off to get to the bolt, but then you can get it out with pliars.

we fixed the broken bolt.....thanks

and i didnt overtighten anything

hey, when you are taking your quad apart like that, always have a pair of viscrips with you, they are the best tool you can ever have, i love them.

invest in some assembly lube, expensive for what you get but worth not breaking bolts. i wouldnt do a rebuild without it. it will stop what happened to you next time.

Next time you change the oil filter, lube the bolt threads with some clean oil at least. Anti-seize would be better, but in a pinch oil is better than putting a dry metal bolt into aluminum threads.
