Help with front and back sprockets

what would be the BEST front and back sprockets(teeth size) to pick up speed?

Posted by: 47501exracer

If you want speed, go with a 16 tooth front or you could drop a couple teeth in the rear. I think with a 16T front the sprocket guard might not fit. Correct me if I'm wrong guys. Remember with these changes you will lose low end torque.

going to a 16 tooth you do need to remove the case saver, which is kinda nice to have when your chain snaps. yound be better to leave the 15 front and go smaller in the back

they r right 15 or 16

Posted by: SLSD400exGUY

okay 15 front what size back???

Posted by: redhondi400

36 may work for you. 2 teeth in the back is like 1 tooth up front I think.

Posted by: 47501exracer

That's correct. Try that out first.

okay cool ill have to try that out.

Also what is the stock front and rear sizes? im to lazy to run out side right now lol.

thanks

what if i went with a 14T front and a 36T rear? would it help in going any faster?

the reason im asking this is my friend has a 400ex but upgraded to a 440 kit and i cant keep up with him. ill do this stuff frist and when i get the money ill up too.

hold up i thought when u dropped teeth in the rear it lowered your top speed and increased tourque and bottom end grunt and when you increase the rear it gains speed and loses bttom end grunt ???

Go to this site and type in what gears you have and make up a MPH if you dont know exactly. and keep changing the gears till you come up with what you want.

Just a heads up you need a lot of motor to pull a tall gear so dont try to go to fast or it will take you a mile to get up to top speed.

thanks that will help me out big

Posted by: RednEX

on average you will change 5 MPH for every tooth on the front and 2MPH for every tooth on the back.

one specifically for the 400ex!!!
