My mechanic tells me that's the only kind of oil I should run.
I believe him, I just want to see what other people's opinions are.
Seems to work okay for me. But is this the best oil to run?
If it's not, I would like to know what is. I don't want to run synthetic either.

thats what i run in my 4 wheeler. i wasnt told to its just cheaper than honda oil so i use it. its been working well for me for a year now

yea i run the castrol 10w-40 it seems to work as good as the Bel-Ray i used to use

I use mobil red cap. Got the idea on an older thread here. I think any good name brand is good. The key is to change you oil often. I change mine every 4-6 rides. Changing the oil filter every other time. It sounds crzy but I believe that why my 99' 400ex has never had a problem yet!!

Castrol Syntech is a semi synthetic blend.
The Castrol 10w-40 that most people run is Castrol GTX. It is conventional oil like the Honda GN4. You can get it at any auto parts store or even Walmart for about $2 per quart.

Yeah I got mine at K-Mart lol...you can get that stuff everywhere.

Have you guys check the clearance of your valves? how often are u suppose to do that? Mines are a little loud any feed back will be appreciated.

400ex's are known for there ticking sound...i check the valves about every other month...

How often do you find them out of limits? and what is the difference in the loudness of the ticking when you tighnten puppies up?

Umm usually the arnt too far off..i would say maybe check them every so often....an ex will always tick loud even when the valves are set...no popb hoss'enda

what oil weight you guys use on your EX me 10w40 maybe since am in florida were is hot i should be using something thicker what u think maybe the- thicking will minimize???
