I would like to remove the controls on the left side of my handlebars because I need the room and dont use any of the controls anymore, other than my start button. (I have removed my lights and I use my tether as a kill switch, so the only thing left is the "Start Button") What I would like to do is remove that whole thing and use an aftermarket button as my start button... A botton something like these...http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=210006&store=Main&productId=p210006&catId=116&leafCatId=11607 I am sure someone else has done this to theirs, I just need to know what kind of switch to get and how to wire it up. If anyone has any thoughts or tips please let me know, I need the help. Thanks!

I am looking to do the same thing. I have heard of people using a YZ kill switch as there start button. and it works great. I havent tried it yet.

Posted by: daddio

a "kill" button works great, for a while. then it will stop working. I put on a starter button from a wr450 (same motor as yfz) p/n 5TJ-83976-10-00. wire it to your stock starter wires. it works great.

yz kill switch button off the dirt bike will work great to start your 450 i use one and works great
i've had it for 2 years and it has never screwed me over

Posted by: 44oEX

we burned out 5 of those style buttons. the starter button from a wr is much cleaner, and it's made to be a starter button. It looks almost like the one in the picture.

I think that one is off of a rm. and i never had any problems

Hey daddio where would I get a wr450 (same motor as yfz) p/n 5TJ-83976-10-00 starter button???

I ordered one from my Yamaha dealer. it took about 1 week

Posted by: RingoYFZ450

Thanks I will check it out. About how much are they?

Posted by: RingoYFZ450

Also Daddio, i know nothing about the WR450 so excuse my ignorence, does it matter what year?

Posted by: daddio

2004 or 2005 wr450 both took the same switch. but the # I gave you is from a 2004. I think the switch was about $20 bucks. It was actually less than the "western powersports, generic kill switches" I was buying.

What could you do if you still wanted to use the headlights every now and then.I want to get the same setup but ocassionaly I ride at night, any suggestions?

Posted by: 44oEX

just get a toggle switch and hide it under the fenders some where and hook you lights to that.

Good idea. a "bilge pump" switch from a jet ski would work perfect for a switch. it's small, waterproof, and easy to mount.

i have had the yzf kill switch for a starter for over a year now. Works great.

I have a yz kill switch works well!!!

Alright guys I put the new buttom in and it works great. I had to cut the kill switch wires and cross them together to get it to work. My questions is... What did you guys do with all the light (Headlights) wires? I cut them and I have a few inches sticking out of the plug, but I gotta leave the plug in for the hot and ground wire for the botton. Did you guys just tape the wires up or did you connect them together? I would think they would be fine left alone but I didnt know if it would affect the wiring and batt discharge or something.. any thoughts guys? Thanks for the help!!!

which button did you end up going with Thunder?

Posted by: iride47

is that wr button waterproof? i just hooked up a tusk kill switch button that looks just like that but everytime it gets wet it won't work.this is a problem because it is always wet and muddy around here.

Posted by: 4StrokeThunder

I'm not sure the name of the botton... But it's a small round black kill button (i think its for a Honda). It looks the same as the one in the directions in Mansell Racing instrustions. It seems waterproof but I put some sylicone on the back of it just in case... We'll see this weekend in the first race

I had a YZ250 killswitch on my 400ex that I used for a starter button and it worked good for as long as I had it. Im going to do the same with my YFZ. When I was looking to use a killswitch for my starter button on my 400ex everybody said to go with a YZ killswitch because they had problems with the CR killswitches burning out.

The red button is a kill switch so I can easily start and stop the quad between class start at the Harescrambles. Yes its the tank vent for a dry break tank. Thanks for the coments. I hope to make the rest of the races but soemthing always seems to come up. I'm planning right now to hit the GA GNCC in 2 weeks. When he took that pic I had just hit a small kicker and was about to go over the bars.

do either of you race at 800sx/mx at crofton. if so, i might see ya there, cause i'm try and make a few of their races this year, cause their in a series w/ my uncles track that i'm gonna race.

I pretty much ride woods only.Don't get me wrong I like to get on a track every once in a while,I just don't race MX.We did have a XC race up in Croften a couple weeks back.

Pappy just told me that one like it is a Cannondale start switch. So, I assume that is also a Dale switch...
