hey guys..this is my first post. i currently have an 01' 250ex but im going to be buying a 2005 trx 400ex. How do you guys like it and what is the top speed it can get on a straight away? thanks

I've got a 2004 ex and i love it, as far as top end goes bone stock got me 64.5 on my gps, but and i'm trying to find out why still. after i got an fmf powercore pipe, k&n airfilter and jet kit, and rev box i am only getting 57.5 mph on the same gps, same air temp, and same strait away. my buddy has the Z-400 and it has a little more torque but the speeds before the upgrades were within 1 mph of each other and with similar up grades he is getting 66.8 on the gps... but over all now it has got awesome low end, it is no problem to pull it off the ground in 4 th and with some effort i can still get it up in 5th. and im really happy with the overall performance and maneuverability of this quad....good luck...

Stock my 400 would get about 66 mph according to a GPS. After all the mods in my sig, I am getting 71 mph with stock gearing. I love my 400 and I think it's a awesome bike for anyone!

Most people agree a stock 400ex will top out in the mid 60s. Heard they changed the gearing a little for 05 but don't know how much of a difference that made.

I agree with the low to mid 60's top speed, not sure what the actual gearing is. I belive the gearing change was to compensate for the added reverse.

the stock gearing on the 05's is 14/39. i am guessing the gears inside had to change for them to lower the gearing on the front and rear sprocket.

ok heres a race between a raptor and a 400ex this is not my raptor racing but iv raced the raptor that won and i was a half of a qaud in front of him the 400ex had a spars pipe and some motor work http://www.dunereview.com/video/w-lt250rrace1-3.wmv

First of get an education were you actuly learn to spell. If you would like to race come on down to pennsylvania. I've smoked plenty of CRAPTORS with more mods then you have. Whos saying anything 400ex's weighing too much when the craptors weigh 425lbs. Dude keep running your mouth. Your quad SUCKS, you SUCK, face the facts. Would you like the race my 450r? Its still 210cc less then your quad and will make your CRAPTOR look retarded.

I have a Honda250R that will smoke most Raptors and it is pretty much stock and my 250 is 410cc less than the craPTOR.

You can make any thing fast. But can you make it handle the power? The rappy is a great bike in the right place. Yeah its fast right from the factory, and with shocks, +2 arms and an axle, its a great trail bike. But it's still to top heavy.

Any one who starts with motor mods on any quad should rethink there plans. Every bike on the market today has to much motor for the suspension. Even the raptor 80 and especialy the 660.

You can go faster with a good suspension than you can with a good motor.

Yes this is true! Remember your riding a 250cc two strock that weighs 300lbs so they really do rip. I had a chance to ride my friends sparks 265r which the sparks owner made I believe for himself and later sold, anyways I got a chance to ride this beast and it was one of the most impressive 250r's I've ever rode. This could easily beet his friend Ed's mx yfz with a sparks pipe, k&n and a few other motor mods.

We still know and always will know that....
