i am woundering how much hp a stock 400ex has?
and about how much do you think a 400ex with a t-4 slip on has
any help would be cool
thanks

Posted by: TCracin440ex

im guessin about 39 hp

you get you some nerfbars and that will proally put you well over the 40 mark

nah j/k man im going to say about 29-30 depending on your jetting and everything with the slipon, filter, and maybe a rev box

stock 400ex ive been told about 27ish

Posted by: bump

yea i have the bars....man, they up that horse power soo much i would recomend them to anyone...lol
thanks for the help

Posted by: TCracin440ex

in all seriousness....i wouldnt ever bother ridding a quad if it didnt have nerf bars...a few of my buddys dont have nerfs on their quads and im like how do you stand that....my nerfs done saved my *** a few times

soon as i get my 450r which will be soon i hope the first order of business is nerf bars...ill never ride w/o nerfs again...i did it for a while on my 400ex, and after havin nerfs a quad looks and feels naked w/o them

dont forget that 27-28 is not at the wheels. so will all other rotating stuff id say maybe 22-23hp at the wheels.

Posted by: TCracin440ex

yea tru...id guess a lil bit more than 22-23...im guessin 24-25 at the ground

Posted by: Troy15x

You probaly have a little more HP than you think.
My first quad was a 2000 Kawasaki Mojave 250.
17 HP stock, Jeff Barker at extreme tech. atv in Mt. Gilead Ohio, did all my motorwork. The KAW pushes 31 HP now. This is not at the wheels it is probaly closer to 29 there, but it made a big difference. ]

Barker is almost finished with my 400ex, i had it bored to a 416 and put a stage 2 Hot Cam on, as well as a Big Gun full system race exhaust. When he is finished I will have him throw it on the DYNO to see about what she has.

I've seen dynos before. A stock 400ex is putting out like 25-26. A piped, and open airbox 400ex (jetted obviously) puts out around 27-28. I thought that this was at the rear wheels, but you guys seem to think differently so maybe I'm wrong!?

Posted by: TCracin440ex

idk there are so many dynos of 400ex's out there its hard to tell which 1 is true..

Posted by: Plante400

So... could anyone tell me how much hp a 400ex with fmf PC 4 puts out? and estimate anyways?

Posted by: 400exrider707

read the dang posts. 27 with lid off. I got those numbers from a dirt wheels pipe shootout. Between like 15 pipes the lowest power was like 26.9 and the highest was like 27.9 so not much difference.

Posted by: Plante400

crud.. i meant 440 haha thats why it sounded dumb

Posted by: TCracin440ex

ok a 440 tells us alot...what compression ratio you running, kinda cam, is your head been ported and polished, what is your jetting specs...

You'll be between 33-35.

sheesh it was late SORRY

um 11:1

fmf pc4 slip on............

no port & polish

no other mods except for the bore, wiseco piston and the fmf

i was just curious anyways

Posted by: TCracin440ex

29-31

Posted by: TCracin440ex

yea 29-31 but you could be getting a better # out of that if you rejetted and so on

Posted by: Plante400

i rejetted when i put it in but to tell u the truth u dont know the specs because my mechanic did it when i sent it in to be bored and what not

he did everything

Posted by: Plante400

And

a K & N filter and a rev box would do me some good?

Posted by: K_Fulk

I would get a uni and a cam.

Posted by: Plante400

my mechanic who put the 440 kit in said a cam would help quite a bit but i ahvent got around to it.. ahh im busy

Posted by: K_Fulk

A cam would help you a lot right now though

Then a full pipe and porting. It never ends

Posted by: Plante400

it never ends is right

maybe ill end up dumping more money into it when the track is done at our pit

btw i havent mentioned anyhting about it but its going to be sweet and Big anyone will be welcome after its done, on sundays. My paps is having a lawyer write up something so people can race there at their own risk

i dont want to get sued and it seems everyone is suing everyone now adays!!

haha besides that what cam do you recommend.

and a uni is better than a KN?

I am totally against people nagging on on other people for asking questions and telling them to do a search and be a dik about it. But there are seriously A LOT of threads about this. Pretty much everyone has they're own opinion. K&N flows more but people say it lets more dirt in, I have a K&N and have never seen dirt on the intake side of the carb. UNI is cheaper but is said to not flow as much but blocks more dirt.

Posted by: K_Fulk

If you dyno a k&n against a uni there is only a .10 of a horsepower diffrence.

I like the web 479 cam, to take full advantage of it you need to get your head ported a carb and all the otehr stuff i mentioned, not to mention valve , springs, hardend rocker, etc.

If you go the cheap route get a hotcam.

Posted by: Plante400

well screwwww that

for now anyways

i dont feel like blowing any money right now...

it goes good as it is..

i will probobly go with a uni or kn filter though.. the only reason i havent changed anythign els is because it runs great..

an since you seem to be replying to every question
what do you know about smoking when i first start up my bike.

it is usually a black and kind of goes lighter then just stops smokiing all together when its warmed up..

any thought? I have asked this is many other threads but never get an answer.

my name is kyle too btw hahahhaha

Posted by: K_Fulk

I wouldnt worry about a little smoke on startup, usually after everything warms up it goes away. Its when your riding on a cloud of smoke you gotta worry.

Posted by: gotahemi2004

mine was smokeing ont he start up after i had my 440 installed.. had new guides put in and it went away

haha that makes me laugh.. i love seeing someone ride by wiht a giant cloud of smoke behind them hahahah

Posted by: 400excaleb

My Lawn mower has more HP than that!!

Posted by: 04'400ex'er

Stock 400ex's have right at 26 hp at the rear wheels. I promise they didnt take the engine out to do the dyno shootout. A full exhaust, K&N, removed airbox lid, and proper jetting will set you around the 28hp mark give or take a little. Remember that is at peak, better increases may be seen in torque numbers as well as in the midrange power curves.
