my cousin has a 400ex with a pipe , air filter and jet kit and i was wondering if i got a stock 250r if i would be able to beat him in a race?

A friend of mine has a stock '86 250r with fresh rebuild my 400 beats him. My uncle also has an 250r I run slightly ahead of him top out, and he can really ride too. When my 400 was stock the 250R would win slightly.

A stock 250r would more than likely beat that 400ex. But there aren't many stock 250r's out there anymore.

heres an idea... go get the R and then race and you will have a definate answer... but switch bikes, rider skill plays a major roll in all racing

It depends on the amount of room, i have dragged a my friends BONE STOCK (original decals and everything) 250r and when we both max out its close, too close to say anything decisive probably depends on the rider, but his little brother who has a 250r bored .040 over, if we drag in a short field ill spank him all day long, but if we drag in a field to where he can open up 5th gear, im just starin at his rear end. (of the 250r of course
