I was just wondering who would be the best work on mmy head. I was wanting to get it ported and polished. I was going to have sparks do it they are to busy and they keep saying call back in a month. I was just wondering who would be the next best thing

Posted by: brandonpeake

well thats a million dollar question its not who is the best but who is the best for the price and the wait more than likely, i went with C&D Racing with mine, if you dont mind the wait most would say sparks but ive heard some horror stories about them as well

Hah sorry I couldn't stop laughing after I read that...
I was told that the 450r really doesnot notice significant power increases when you port the head. Try to go to a reliable company who you know does good work and has a cheap price I'de recomend c&d for anything...

Question...
I know alot of people that can do porting and I was told really that the exhaust side is the only thing you needed porting...

Call Laz at GT Thunder, see what he can do for you.

Posted by: mikes450r

i have been trying to get ahold of gt thunder since christmas and have been unable to get a hold of them..im thinking he took off till the new year or something

Posted by: Dave400ex

They had bad winter storms up there and were with out power, and I believe Popo said Laz took off to Florida.

ROTFLMFAO!!!!!

Posted by: 450 Racer R

anyway... yeah I read that port and polish on the 450r head doesn't have much of a benefit. Polishing the exhaust side would help, I wouldn't do anything to the intake side.

Posted by: kazpr

Well I can tell you Nmotion swears by port and polish and oversized valves.

Look at the project XC 450R, the sticky thread at the top. They did port and polish just because they wanted to, not because it made a difference in power or anything

I'm sensing that you are disappointed. Do you have any quality information?

Brandons motor will be done here in a couple of weeks and I am sure he will let you all know the difference. Porting a stock motor is not worth your time. but as you make the CC bigger and the bigger the cam you run the more it becomes crucial to the proper performance of your motor. A bad port job can hinder performance also.

so I suppose your saying that brandons motor isn't only getting port and flow- its getting more CC's too!

very cool- cant wait to hear the update.

PR2 Racing

they are mainly a dirtbike company but I sent my head to them, they do a 5 angle valve job, and polish the exhaust port.

The 450R head is fairly efficient in stock form, but if you have a Rev box, an FCR carb, hi comp piston, and a full exhaust sytem, you should see some benefit from this mod! their website isnt compelte, but give PR2 engine division a call, I had mine back in about 2 weeks! he specd' the valves and everything!

Posted by: mikes450r

whats the difference in a rev box and say the vortex.

Posted by: trost66

I have a sparks full exhaust with sparks cam and a 13-8-1 piston. Do you think it would make a difference to have it head done

No we are going with the stock bore on his bike. He wants a fast motor that anyone could afford to do. It is frustrating for customers to see these outragous dyno charts only to find out he motor cost $5,000 to build

I hear ya on this.

Well, I'd have to say that your customer is smart enough to call the best- Colby and Dusty @ C&D Racing.
