in the out position, any help or am i the first?

No your not the first. Mine did it this summer/fall. I took hot start out of the carb and replaced the plunger/spring assembly. And clean out where it went. Works good now.

if i dont use it will it hurt it to ride like that? how much did it cost you to fix yours?

mine is starting to act funny too. its goes in but dosent come out all the way. is this hurtin my bike?

Don't ride with the hot start out! Causes extreme lean condition!

i knew it! can i just take it off? theres really no need for it. I never use it.

The only way to eliminate it is to take the plunger, spring and end off of the cable and put those parts back into carb with a dab of RTV on the cable end. Would be easier while your in there to replace the cable! You'll need the hotstart if you stall it in hot conditions!

this might sound stupid, but what is RTV? I'm gonna keep it but i dont want my quad to get f'd up. its not like it gets stuck but i dont think it returns all the way back to its origional position. I'm not that experienced on working on carbs. is this going to be a lengthy process to take it apart?

you don't know what rtv is??? LOL rtv is a silicone based rubber adhesive. when it dries it is like rubber. You can get it in any hardware store. just ask for RTV. There are different colors for diff. temperatures. If I remeber right red is high temp. good luck.

You have to remove the tank-the hotstart requires a 14mm open end to remove from carb- just remember not to tighten up too much because of plastic threads!

Mine acted up twice, I lubed the O ring where it goes into the carb, and cleaned the dirt out, it gets a lot of junk in there. I just make it part of maintenence.

mine is also doing this. the hot start is stuck and it is running lean and dieing right off idle every now and then. so after you take off the tank and remove the hot start from the carb what else do you do to fix the problem? i thought about taking mine in to the shop to have them look at it but if it is easy(and i am mechanically minded) i will give it a shot and try to fix it myself but i just need to know what to fix, exactly. thanks, chris

Unscrew the plastic hotstart and pull plunger out of carb- check to see that the cable is ok by working the lever- if ok, clean the plunger and carb and use some wd40 to lube the parts up.

WD-40 in the carb???

Mine is alos stuck, I can't figure out what is wrong! However, mine is stuck in the closed postion so I can't use it!

Use Wd40 or PB Blaster to loosen the plunger- WD 40 is good for the engine as long as you don't blow dirt down into carb! Best to remove carb and clean thoroughly anyway! WD40 even makes a good starting fluid for a diesel! Safer than starting fluid!
