i know there are probably many different threads about this but i wanted to start a new one. what is the best overall pipe for the z400. most increase of power.

hmf ------------ Bottom end
yoshimura ---- Top end

U can also consider Curstis sparks but i dont know much about it power ...

If u have time wait for yoshimura . They will offer comp serie exhaust but it will be TRC comp system which will have the tri-oval canister . Early 2005

Just my .005 cents ...

I love my Dr. D system. It's a lot more snappy and meaty than my old T-4, and quieter than HMF's,sparks and TC.

this really depends on where you ride. everywhere in CA that i ride requires a USFS spark arrestor.

guess what, sparks and trinity(regarded as the most powerful) have no spark arrestor. my guess is that when you add the spark arrestor to them, all pipes are pretty much the same, with the only difference beign the level of noise. everywhere you read you will see different things. yoshi is refered to a mid range pipe half the time, and a top end pipe the other half the time. while im sure there are difference, i doubt you could feel a power difference between any of the good ones out there

Full system or slip on? Is the headpipe worth the extra $$?

Posted by: Mobile Dyno

I'm getting ready to install a Header on aKFX400. I'll put the results on here. Maybe that will help and show you the difference. I would say the header is worth the money if there is motor work done. This bike has a stock motor. It already has a HMF slip-on.

My Scorpion slip-on has a VERY hard mid to top end hit. But again...no spark arrestor.

the header helps for high end power. at lower RPM's the stock header flows plenty, but at the higher one it gets more backed up, which is why the new larger header helps more up there.

The HMF all the way. It's pretty loud but with this pipe you have options. You can buy the slipon now and get the header later if money is tight. Bottm and midrange with the slipon is great, you'll get more top end if you get the full system.

yoshi is always good and i also like rossier engineering pipes and curtis sparks

Posted by: joe benner

I will send a ROSSIER pipe for comparason to the other brands if you post the dyno sheets. Mobile dyno if you call me and give me your shipping address so i can send the pipe (715) 341-9919

i heard that sparks is coming out with a sparky kit for his pipes?but my choice would be the HMF full with quiet core(the quiet core has a spark arrestor attached to it) if noise is a problem, otherwise you can just run the spark arrestor that comes with it,but if you order it make sure you ask for it

If I had a Z400 from what I've seen most people happy with is the Yoshimura Full System! It seems like it makes the bikes run better in the top end area! I know GT Thunder makes an awesome Shorty for the Z. Theres a guy that drags locally and has one and cant be beat!

a head pipe is definatly worth it

Posted by: QUADROOKIE

Not trying to argue, just posting what I have read and been told, and that is this. Most engine builders believe that with stock engine, meaning no cams or anything, just a filter and jet change, you will not see any gain from a new head pipe. Wiythout changing bore, stroke, compression, etc. the engine does not create enuff exhaust to warrant a headpipe change, thus the slip-on will do all you need it to. Just my .02

i would consider the Big Gun pipe also...it gave my 300 alot more power so i assume i would help the Z..if not that go with the HMF
