What ATV stand to use?

What do you use guys use to jack up your ATV when working on them. I'm getting ready to take off my rear shock, I'm supposed to put the ATV on a stand and then brace the rear axle.

What do you typically use for a stand? Do you purchase a AC or some other brand?

How do you get the ATV on this stand when you need to use it?

Where do you recommend getting these stands?

I just use a 5 gallon bucket. It's cheap and it does the trick.

I have an AC stand that requires you to first lift up your atv vertical..... Not recommended for those weak guys/gals out there. Then you prop the stand underneath the frame with the hooks supplied on the stand, then you bring the atv down on top of the stand. It may sound difficult, but really, the only difficult part, for some, will be lifting their atv up vertical. After that, piece of cake!

Note: I have not tried those stands that you put under your atv and then "jack" it up. They look pretty cool, and the price did not seem too bad.

BTW, I got mine at an ATV shop, but I know you can mail order them.

I just lift my quad up vertical, and make sure it doesnt fall, and thats about it, really cheap! too

Verticle, after you take the gas tank off I assume? Mine has a tendency to leak gas out the air tube on the tank...

I use whatever I have that'll support the beast.. Mainly a couple Car Stands or an old milk crate.. It requires lifting the atv up, and having someone, or using your foot, slide the stand underneath.. I wouldn't trust it to get under it, but it does the job for what I've needed to do..

In the pic you cant tell, but the tires are all off the ground and it is stable enough to sit on too. That is how I teach my 7y/o how to use the clutch

Works great for me and I always have a bucket laying around.

put it in neutral, lift the front, walk backwards a few steps and set it down. all four wheels are up about 5 inches. only down fall with this method is that i can't figure out a way to get the lid open on the cooler, so i'm forced to complete the project, THEN drink the beer inside. it's kinda like a motive.

LOL, sounds like the cooler idea might be the best "motivator", huh??

Before we put the atv "vertical", we turn the gas knob to "off" position, where you have the choices of "ON", "OFF", "RESERVE". Hopefully then you will not have the gas leaking then.

I think he's talking about the vent tube on the gas cap. Turning the gass off to the engine won't help that out.

Ohhhhhh, I'm sorry. Thank you for the update!

I have the stock vent tube, and stock gas cap, and to this day have not had a problem with gas coming out of the vent tube once the atv is vertical. Maybe it is because I normally don't have that much gas in the tank to begin with.......

Well anyway, good luck on getting a stand/bucket/cooler for your atv.

I too have a stock gas cap, but though I haven't tried lifting it up vertical, I would suspect that the gas level would never rise above the end of the vent tube even if it was a full tank. You would get gas in the tube, but it would never leak out.

My only experience has been when I have stood it up pulling a wheelie and ending up off the back and leaving the bike upright on the grab bar...gas leaks out on me

I use my wagon, Remamber that wagon you had as a kid or maybe one of ur kids has. Time to put it to use. If its matal use a cloth or something to prevent matal on matal and just have some one lift the quad up and then slide the wagon under it. then you have aportable stand. It has worked for me and if it gets in the way it is easily moved.

that yellow frame is pretty bad. but i wouldn't go blowing 99 dollars on a stand, just go steal a few milk crates from the grocery store. if one isn't high enough get two and zip tie them together, best thing i've ever found.

I bought a stand that is on castors and lifts using a hydraulic (sp) jack with a foot pedal. I'll get some pics when I get hom tonight and email them to whoever is interested.

BTW it was $99

Yeah, I use a hydraulic lift that I picked up at Sam’s for $99. It has rollers on it and a little foot pedal. Just roll it under your machine, pump the pedal a few times, drop the support arms for safety, and you're ready to go. Probably the best 100 bucks I've spent on maintenance for my ride. I can post pictures too if anyone want's to see them.

I made mine out of scrap wood and 4 (locking) caster wheels and all-ya dont forget the carpet. Size is 2x2x2x. Works awsome you can move the bike all around with no effort at all.

I like my AC atv stand, but if I had to do it over again, I would get one of those hydraulic ones!!!! Wanna trade????

BTW, sounds like the hydraulic stands cost as much as AC stands.

Has anyone ever seen the quick work stand over at james luckys site? Raises the front or back in about 5 seconds. A guy had one at the track awhile back. It goes under the front or back of the quad and kind of rolls over to off center, works great. Also it has 4 small wheels on the top of it so the rear axle can spin while being supported.

i take i square piece of ply wood , set it on my 2 ton jack. position it under the frame and jack it up. it also spins around. not stable enough to be getting on it though but it works. i also took half of the jack handle off so it jacks up faster. im going to build a metal thing to slip down inside the part where the bowl shape thing attatches to the jack so that it has little U shaped parts that the frame will rest it. much more stable then. ill have to talk to my uncle at the BASF machine shop so he can make me a trick alluminum one. he already machined out my beadlock rims so they look like the new douglas ultimate billet fronts. and hes gonna make me a number plate that hangs off the tail light bracket. gotta love them uncles :devil

There’s no sense in wasting $100 on a stand. Make one! One of my friends (actually a fan of mine) made me one in metal shop (for free....well a few racing lessons). It’s great because he made it high enough that when sitting on my creeper (its one of those seats-fold down creepers) that it’s at arm level. No bending down. It’s also nice when sanding because everything is high up and you can still lean on it if your doing something like adjusting the valves. It was only like $10 in materials. I'll post some pics when my bro gets me back my digital camera (he took with him to collage for a few weeks) it looks a lot like twisted threads stand.

Thats how I got mine we made it. My dads freind makes stuff for our bikes all the time. The Atv stands he makes are awsome and easy to get your bike on.

i take 2 old mike crates that i stole from school and stack the on top of each other and pull the bike on the using nother person and the nerfs. remember it always helps to have an extra set of hands around!!
