Can anybody tell me all of the differences between the different model year 250R Quads?

There really isn't a better motor out of the R's except for the clutch design on the 89's. Buy the 89 update kit for your 86 and it will make the pull much easier on the clutch . Also it really is just preference between the short rod and long rod. 85-86 were the short rod motors, while 87-89 had the long rod. The short rods revved faster but the 87-89 seems to be more torque. The 87-89 have a different port configuration than the 86's but get a good port/polish and it will solve that too.also the frames were a little different in geometry. but any r is a good r

86 is an inch longer, has a headlight on the handlebars, frame has a couple different supports, along with that from above...
