Air Filter Cleaning

When riding in dusty/sandy conditions, how often should a K&N filter be cleaned and oiled? After each trip? A few times a season?
Thanks.

This might not b what your looking for, but really it depends on what you see. If it looks like it's dirty, clean it. I clean mine everyother ride usually, and every ride when it's super dusty out. If your worried about a clean filter, you could also invest in a pre-charger, they drastically cut down on airfilter cleanings and are pretty cheap.

Thanks. I have an Outerwears cover on it but guess it would not hurt to clean it more often.

i clean my prefilter after everyride and cleaned my k&n once, but, as long as it has it's purple-red color then it should be fine (what k&n told me anyway) as long as it isnt white or cleary in need of a cleaning. they also said that dirt buildup (slight) helps filter better....:confused2
