whats the difference between HP4 and GN4?

hmm I'm not sure .. maybe one it's synth and the other mineral oil?
do a search here on maintenance.. I'm sure I've seen it somewhere..or.. just wait for another reply

gn4 is what comes stock in the machine just basic motor oil the hp is sinthetic and has a lil detrgent in it to keep it a lil cleaner running. i think its a waist of money i ran that in my old 1 for like 6.95 a quart and now i run mobil red cap for 20 gallon and i can get 2 changes outa that gallon for what it costs for only about 3 quarts of the hp i think my quad runs better with the mobil = better price better quality honda hp your paying for the name

MAKE SURE THE OIL THAT YOU ARE BUYING IS DESIGNED FOR USE IN 4 STROKE ENGINES...(yes I know that the engines in cars are 4 stroke, but there IS a difference)

I was talking to one of my buddys at honda about it and he only runs honda oil. He said honda spends a ton of R&D on there lubes. He said its well worth it. So my next oil change ill be going to the honda synthetic....

your buddy si wrong..honda doesnt even make the oil...they put a bid up for other companys to see which one will supply them with the cheapest oil. You never even know whats in the GN4 bottles..that stuff is actually junk

GN4 is a standard atv / motorcycle 4 stroke engine oil.
HP4 is a semi synthetic
HP4-M is the full synthetic

I don't think the honda oil is junk......... I hate to tell ya but dino oil is dino oil is all pretty much the same. Ecept between car oil and ATV oils but you know what i mean. I don't even know anyone else to get oil from beside honda brand.
