Engine Noise!!!

I was riding around the track today and i started to notice a rattleing noise so i got off and checked everything and it souds like it's coming from the motor. When it's at idle it doesn't do it but as soon as you rev it up a bit it starts to rattle like something is loose. It sounds like it's in the motor and i can't find anything thats loose. Anyone else have this problem or have any idea what it could be? And will a pipe and air filter void the warrenty? Thanks.

have you checked your heatshield? mine drove me nuts till it fell off

Posted by: #1speedbump

check the screws in the pipe heat shield, these seem to come loose ALOT

OMG is that what my 400ex is doin... whew i thought it was something bad...

Posted by: RedRaider

Actually that ws the fist thing i checked cause thats what it sounded like it ws, but everything was tight. Hopefully i'll have time to drop it off at the dealer tomorrow but i was hoping it was something simple that i forgot to check.

HHMMMMM????!!!!??

maybe check the heat shield agian, the clamps on mine were bent a bit and was making the rattle, not the bolts on my machine.

you said u were track riding, check where the frames are cracking, that could be it. i doubt it though.

Check your skid plate bolts they might have worked their way loose.

give up

How far did you drive to ride today?

Posted by: TRX450R_Racer

How long have you had it? Did you ride 2 stroke before or 4 stroke? When I first got mine it sounded like the engine was coming a part. I also never had a 4 stroke so I didn't know what was normal and what wasn't. After riding it a few times it went away. Hope this helps.

If you're talking about sunday, i drove farther then i wanted to. And it really wasn't all that great., nothing like your new track

I bet it is the skid plate bolts....check them cause my buddies 450r motor sounded like it was bout to blow when he reved it up because his skid was loose...if i was the motor it would prolly make that noise at idle also...

Have you added a belly skid plate lately? I had the same type of noise, turned out to be my belly skid plate, I had to use some weather stripping to make it stop.

I hear a certain rattle too that seems to be coming from the motor. My buddy has a CRF450 and his motor makes the same noise. I think it's just a noise that these motors make but I am not sure.

my engine makes the noise...its just a little ticking from the motor..it would make me feel better if I could hear someone elses & know that its normal...im sure im just being paranoid

Posted by: 35charlie

Mine ticks a bit too but it doesn't really concern me. I'm used to air-cooled ticking valve tappit 4-strokes anyway.

Posted by: Jumbo747

so its probably not the valves that are ticking needing to be adjusted that i'm eharing?

Posted by: 35charlie

I don't think so. I just adjusted mine when I installed my cam (3-4 tanks of gas ago).

Posted by: 400ex45

it sounds like the valves are to loose. when a valve is to loose it makes a ticking noise.
