I could have either, but I have an R...

If you want the truth go to a non honda/yamaha fourm and ask this question. You will get real responses.

the 450r's have been kicking butt in the stock 4 stroke classes at the drag races around here this year.

all right, I'll have a shot at this one this time around . . . . I'm gonna take a good look too.

Beaten to death question #1: Which is better? R or YFZ?

Beaten to death question #2: Which pipe is best?

Beaten to death question #3: Carb jetting?

Beaten to death question #4: What cam?

Beaten to death question #5,6,7,etc: Nerf bars, tires, handlebars . . . . blah blah blah . . .

Ya know what? The YFZ is best. Go get 'em. See ya on bluetraxx . . .

I think they are close enough that it basically comes down to if you want a honda or a yamaha.

In my opinion the only difference is the riders preference to kick or push the button.

^^^What they said^^^

go to z400 central and ask.

Unless your initials are BB or DG...hmmm neither one of those guys ride a Honda.

just kidding you know, It's all rider at that level, and it shows the current crop of quads are all pretty good.

but really, it comes down to a honda or a yami. Yami is faster, honda is more comfortable. kick vs push

I'd take either, but would rather a Honda

I looked at and test rode both quads and it came down to 2 factors, either living with a kick start or living with a stone for seat foam, I chose kick start. I started thinking about it and the worse expirience I had with my old quad was being stuck in the middle of the woods with a dead battery and a big ole DS650 to push home. I could have changed out the seat foam on the YZF but I just didnt like the whole feel. As far as performance is concerned, I think they are way to close to compare. I think stock to stock the YZF will pull a little harder in the straights while the R will take the turns a little better.

Hey I've just bought a new 450r and I was talking to another 450r owner. He said that it was better to go aftermarket instead of the hrc kit. Any views on this?

I found the HRC kit for $200 on ebay, but before then I had the same thoughts. After having installed the kit, the cam works really well for me. And I really dig the changes to intake and airbox lid. I had already switched out to another exhaust and carb, so the leftover stuff (exh endcap, jet/needle) goes back out on ebay. For what I paid, definately worth the small amount of money for what I got.

My goal is to get all I can out of the 450r without having to go to race gas. My RV has a big gas tank and I like the convenience of being able to fuel the generator, my truck and all the bikes right from one tank without carrying different gas for each. Your needs may be different, but that's my $0.02.

Have fun!
