When you check the oil you screw the dipstick, or do you set it on top of the threads (don't screw it in)????

I have always screwed it in, and it has always run fine, but it just crossed my mind yesterday and I wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing.

to check it you are not suppoesed to screw it in./..you just set it on top of the threads
