I used to ride my 250r trail riding all the time, master the cluth and you will will never have a problem. I also trail rode my atc250r after I built it, now it has 18" tires, no skids, 330, 88 elka shock, durablue strut. If I'm gonna go trail riding I have a 4 gallon tank, skid plates and 20" tires, but its a pain to change it over, besides I'd rather do mx. I'm gonna get a short track kit that is only for mx and flat track racing(1.4 gallon tank), so trails will be totally out of ability after that. If you plan on alot of trail riding on a 250r, go and buy a 4 gallon tank, the stock 2.6 gallons runs out fast and keep the stock a-arms and maybe axle, as there could be two inches preventing you from making it though the trail. 21" fronts and 20" rear seam the be the hot set-up. also get a low-end pipe, you're not gonna have much fun with a top-end pipe.

I have had my 88 model since around 1990 and it has been trail ridden a LOT. Never had any problems with it---ever. I am going riding this weekend and it may blow up, but I still could not complain as it has been ultra reliable.

y destroy somthing w/ so much racing potential... that like bogging a showroom quad
Posted by: wwclea01
how is trail riding going to destroy a quad. Sure you might hit a tree every now and then and bend a tie rod or a bumper but thats not destroying it.

ridin tight stuff is either A.fouling a plug or B. destoying your clutches from tryin not to foul a plug....atleast w/ a 2stroke

obviously you dont have a 250r because I can see you dont have a clue what your talking about.

That makes a whole lot of sense, since up until this year the majority of Pro GNCC racers rode 250Rs. The 250R is a fine trail bike if it is set up for woods/trail riding.

Jet the carb right and you won't foul plugs.
Going fast also helps!
