I run 10-40 year around in Indiana, in my 300ex. Never had any problems, I would run 10-40.

I run 10w-40 year round in relatively stock motors. I've done this with several quads and have never had any problems, so I don't see any reason to change.
For big bore motors that I plan to run hard, I switch to 20w-50 when the temp gets above 60°.

I HAVE ALWAYS RUN 20W50. I HAVE A BUILT 426 MOTOR BY TC AND THATS THE WEIGHT THEY SAID TO RUN. I ALSO HAVE A FULL HINSON CLUTCH AND THEY ALSO SAID 20W50. THEIR REASONING IS THAT IT IS A LITTLE THICKER AND THE SAME OIL THAT LUBES THE CYLINDER LUBES THE CLUTCH. IF YOU RUN THE HEAVIER OIL IT SHOULD NOT BREAK DOWN AS QUICKLY AND HELP KEEP YOUR CLUTCH FROM FRYING ITSELF AND SLIPPING. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS SINCE I SWITCHED TO THE 20W50 AND I RIDE MY QUAD TO ITS FULL POTENTIAL ALL THE TIME.
